We are proud to respond to a range of requests from local partners and this recent referral from a local hospital had an affect on all involved.   *please note that this story includes the subject of baby loss*   “As a regular volunteer with many years’ experience at Stripey Stork, it’s fair to say that I have been very moved by the work of the dedicated referral partners who support so many families in our community.  Their involvement spans across helping...

International Women’s Day 2018

It’s International Women’s Day. What does it mean to us? Well, at Stripey Stork we’re incredibly proud of our team. We’re predominately women (although we have some key roles filled by men who also love what we stand for – thank you to them!) and we enjoy the collaboration and teamwork we have both internally and externally with our partners and referral sources. Working in the way we do helps to support families which on the whole have women at their heart, and today we’re raising our mugs of tea to...

World Book Day 2018

It’s World Book Day today. Now in its 21st year, it’s the biggest celebration of its kind and marked in over 100 countries all over the world. The aim is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books – reading books, listening to stories and getting immersed in a fascinating fictional world.  Many schools in our community encourage the children to take this one step further and to come to school dressed up as a character from a book they enjoy. How do you prepare for World Book Day in your family? There are those of us who...

Stork Stories: Zauna

Stork Stories: Zauna

As part of my role at Stripey Stork, I work with the referral sources to discover stories about families we’re helping to support. Some of the stories can be extremely harrowing and some incredibly sad. I heard about Zauna from one of the wonderful local Outreach Workers and her story quite caught me. She agreed to meet me to speak face to face, so that I could hear her story directly. I wasn’t sure what to expect as she’s faced some enormous challenges, so would she be a defeated person, feeling really low? I wondered how I would feel if put...

The Wild Things play trail is open and there are some workshops you can book too. ‘Fantastic Foxes’ and ‘Forest Fun’ are aimed at children aged 4-7 years and you can book them on this link. The Surprise Souvenir trail at Polesden Lacey sounds like fun, as does the Frames of Fun trail at Nymans. It’s always good at any of the...

Mum2Mum 2018

We’re delighted to announce the launch of our popular “Mum2Mum” campaign. Now in its fifth year, it’s clear that our Mother’s Day campaign resonates with so many of you and we get great feedback from those who donate as well as those who receive. Many of the Mums that we help won’t receive a gift on 11th March. So many of them go without to provide for their children and we want to let them know that we’re thinking of them – local families helping local families. Mum to Mum. Last year we provided a gift for a young mum...
